On the 16th and 17th of October, our full Property Management Team attended PMC 2025 – New Zealand’s leading conference for property management specialists. Two packed days of learning, benchmarking, and future-focused strategy sessions with top operators from across the country.

We’re proud to share that Goodwins went on to win three national awards announced at the Gala Dinner that evening — including Innovator of the Year and the Overall Growth Award. These awards recognise measurable leadership in service delivery, client results, and operational excellence.

A special congratulations also to Jake Cartwright, who was named Rising Star – Property Manager. Jake joined Goodwins from the building trades, bringing five years’ practical construction experience — and he celebrated his two-year anniversary with us on the same day as receiving the award. His technical knowledge continues to translate into faster solutions, more proactive maintenance, and better protection for our landlords’ assets.

These wins are not simply trophies — they are validation of the systems, standards, and culture that underpin the performance of our company.

At Goodwins, we believe property management should grow the value of a portfolio, not just administer a tenancy. We protect our clients’ returns through foresight, strong tenant relationships, and improvement opportunities that compound over time.

Upcoming building reform: new value-creation opportunities

Two significant pieces of building-related news have also landed this week:

  1. Changes to Schedule 1 of the Building Act take effect today (23 October 2025)
These introduce two new consent exemptions for roof-mounted solar panel arrays, plus new setback rules for single-storey detached buildings up to 30m².

  2. The new building consent exemption for small stand-alone dwellings (“granny flats”) is confirmed for early 2026
Following the Building and Construction (Small Stand-alone Dwellings) Amendment Bill.

We are now actively forming alliances with specialists in design, planning, and financing to ensure Goodwins’ clients are ready to maximise yield uplift opportunities — including secondary dwellings and solar-led performance improvements, where appropriate.

More detail will follow in early 2026.
